About Knights United

Formed as an educational partnership between Charlottesville City Schools and UVA Community Credit Union in 2016, this program was designed to help students acquire practical money skills for a bright financial future. The branch is staffed and run by Charlottesville High School students with credit union oversight, exclusively serving its students, faculty, and staff. UVA Community Credit Union supports the Economics & Personal Finance course required for graduation.​ Learn how to open an account.

      SAVINGS

 A great way to save for prom, a car, or college, while establishing solid financial habits.

      CHECKING

Students can learn how to manage money in a safe, learning environment before being on their own.

       DEBIT

Allows students to properly use debit cards and track transactions, thereby becoming more independent.

       CERTIFICATES

An alternative savings product for students looking to earn interest for longer-term financial goals.

At the Knights United branch:  Deposits, balance inquiries, cash withdrawals

         FINANCIAL EDUCATION

We offer a wide variety of brochures and booklets, as well as one-on-one guidance at the Knights United branch. Students can also take advantage of our interactive It’s a Money Thing financial education program.

How to open an account

Students 14 and over may open a savings account. Students under 14 may open a savings with a parent/guardian’s signature.
Students under 18 wishing to open a checking account will need a parent/guardian's signature.

Here's what you need to bring to the branch:

         PHOTO ID: DMV ID/driver's license or current student ID card**

        SOCIAL SECURITY CARD

        $10 DEPOSIT: $5 to open a savings account and $5 to establish a checking account if desired.***

How can a student apply to work at the Knights United branch?

The high school guidance department announces job vacancies. This usually occurs every spring for new hires for the following school year. Students who are hired through this process are trained and may have the opportunity to work at one of the credit union's branches during the summer and/or other school breaks.
