Stop Payment

You can stop payment on a check or an ACH debit by contacting the credit union. An ACH debit is a preauthorized debit processed through the Automated Clearing House. An ACH debit transaction occurs when authorization is given to a company/merchant to initiate debits from an account for payment of products or services.

Check stop payment

  • A check stop payment request is valid for six (6) months
  • The $32 fee is automatically deducted from your account
  • You will need the following information:
    • the check number
    • the amount of the check
    • the date the check was written
    • the payee name
    • the reason for the stop payment request
  • Placing a stop payment on a check:
    • Using Online Banking is the most efficient way to place a stop payment on a check. You can place the stop payment on the check yourself and it takes effect immediately. Log in to Online Banking from any page on our website or through the mobile app. Click or tap Services/Stop Payment and fill out the required information on the screen. A $32 stop payment fee will be deducted from your checking account once the stop payment is placed.
    • You may also use Call 24 to place a stop payment on a check. You can place the stop payment on the check yourself and it takes effect immediately. Call 434-964-2050. Access the Call24 Menu. A $32 stop payment fee will be deducted from your checking account once the stop payment is placed.
    • Download and fill out a Stop Payment form and bring it to one of our full service branch locations during regular hours of operation. A teller will process the stop payment and deduct the $32 fee from your checking account.
    • Call the UVA Community Credit Union call center and request a stop payment. Our representatives can place a temporary 14 day stop payment and will mail you the stop payment form to fill out and return. This form will need to be returned to us within 14 days for the stop payment to convert to a six month stop. If the 14 day stop expires, members will still be charged the $32 fee.
  • To cancel a stop payment, complete a Stop Payment Cancellation form and return it to any branch.

ACH debit stop payment:

  • An ACH debit stop payment request is valid for either six (6) months, or until the stopped item is returned the first time
  • The $32 fee is automatically deducted from your account
  • You will need to provide the following information:
    • the amount
    • the payee
    • the reason for the stop payment request
  • Placing a stop payment on an ACH debit:
    • Download and fill out a Stop Payment form and bring it to one of our full service branch locations during regular hours of operation. A teller will process the stop payment and deduct the $32 fee from your checking account.
    • Call the UVA Community Credit Union call center and request a stop payment.
