VITA Tax Prep Services

Please Note: All of our sites are fully booked and we are unable to take new appointments at this time.

As a result of the COVID-19 virus both the United Way and AARP have suspended their free tax assistance sites until further notice. So, effective immediately we will not be able to take any new tax appointments.

  • At this time we plan to honor all existing appointments, however due to the maximum capacity requirements if you are filing a joint return we may need both parties to enter separately in order to sign tax documents.
  • If you are exhibiting any symptoms or are ill prior to, or at the time of, your appointment, please call us at 434-964-2001 or 888-887-9136.

Why does the Credit Union provide free tax preparation services?

One of our primary goals is to help improve the financial lives of our community residents. Through this program we can assist eligible taxpayers save money on tax preparation fees and help them avoid excessive interest for Refund Anticipation Loans.

Additionally, a significant number of people also fail to claim tax credits for which they are eligible, particularly the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The Earned Income Tax Credit is the federal governments most effective antipoverty program for working households. Providing additional income through a refundable tax credit for people who work but do not earn high incomes. In 2017 these working family credits lifted an estimated 8.9 million people out of poverty, including 4.8 million children.1

Through this program your credit union helps both individuals/families and the community we serve.

Last year alone UVA Community Credit Union’s volunteer sites prepared over 590 tax returns with an estimated economic impact of more than $1,000,000 for our community.
