Local High School Scholarship Program Guidelines

Scholarship Deadline: March 9, 2020

Scholarship Award

UVA Community Credit Union will award a total of eighteen (18) $1,500 needs-based scholarships to:

  1. One graduating high school senior from each of the following public high schools: Albemarle, Charlottesville,
    Culpeper County, Eastern View, Fauquier, Fluvanna County, Kettle Run, Liberty, Louisa County, Madison
    County, Monticello, Nelson County, Orange County, Rappahannock County, Western Albemarle, and William
    Monroe; and,
  2. Two graduating high school seniors attending any public, private, or home-school located in the City of Charlottesville or the county of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange or Rappahannock.

Student Eligibility Requirements

  • The high school senior must be a full-time resident of the City of Charlottesville or the Counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, or Rappahannock.
  • Must plan to attend a two or four year accredited U.S. college or university in the fall of 2020
  • Must hold a GPA of at least 2.50 (winners will be asked to provide a copy of their transcript)
  • May not be an employee or child of an employee/board member of UVA Community Credit Union

Submission Process

Our scholarship deadline was March 9, 2020, and we are no longer accepting entries for this year.

Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges from UVA Community Credit Union. Essays will be graded on clarity, content, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Winner will be asked to provide a copy of their school transcript. Winners will be notified via phone/email by May 6, 2020.

UVA Community Credit Union will invite each recipient and their parent/guardian to the Credit Union's Annual Meeting on May 20, 2020, where our Board of Directors and members of the Credit Union will recogize them.


All scholarship checks will be mailed and made payable directly to the student’s college or university. Winner will provide UVA Community Credit Union with their college/university student ID and mailing address. Checks will be credited for the 2020 fall semester. College scholarships may be considered taxable income in some cases. Recipients should check with your tax advisors.

Winners of the high school scholarship must begin their studies in the fall semester after high school graduation otherwise the scholarship is forfeited. Winners must be enrolled as a full-time student at any accredited vocational, two- or four-year college approved for the U.S. Federal Government's guaranteed student loan program.


All entries become the property of UVA Community Credit Union and by submitting the entry you authorize UVA COmmunity Credit Union to utilize all or a portion of the information for publicity. Some examples include: press releases, publication in UVA Community Credit Union newsletters, websites or social media, newspapers, trade magazines, etc. These announcements may include scholarship recipient’s name, contents of the entry, a photo, and other reported information.


UVA Community Credit Union reserves the right to discontinue or modify its scholarship program, or any component thereof, and to revise any or all of the scholarship requirements, processes, or eligibilty criteria at any time. Not responsible for lost or damaged entries due to technical difficulties or postal issuses.
