Local High School Scholarship Program Guidelines

About our Scholarship Program

UVA Community Credit Union will award a total of eighteen (18) $1,500 needs-based scholarships to:

  1. One graduating high school senior from each of the following public high schools: Albemarle, Charlottesville,
    Culpeper County, Eastern View, Fauquier, Fluvanna County, Kettle Run, Liberty, Louisa County, Madison
    County, Monticello, Nelson County, Orange County, Rappahannock County, Western Albemarle, and William
    Monroe; and,
  2. Two graduating high school seniors attending any public, private, or home-school located in the City of Charlottesville or the county of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange or Rappahannock.

Student Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a full-time resident of the City of Charlottesville or the Counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, or Rappahannock.
  • Must plan to attend a two or four year accredited U.S. college or university in the fall immediately following graduation
  • Must be a High School Senior with a GPA of at least 2.50 (winners will be asked to provide a copy of their transcript)
  • May not be an employee/board member of UVA Community Credit Union 
  • May not be in the care of, or a child of, an employee/board member of UVA Community Credit Union

Submission Process

  1. Complete our scholarship application online, or download this year's application and return using the instructions on the form.  
  2. Submit a 250 - 500 word essay (font size 12/double-spaced) on this year's topic: "The COVID pandemic has created financial stress for many. What is the most important thing you will do in the future to ensure your finances are ready for anything?"
  3. Applications must be submitted/postmarked by March, 19, 2021.


Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges from UVA Community Credit Union. Essays will be graded on clarity, content, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Winner will be asked to provide a copy of their school transcript. Winners will be notified via phone/email by May 7, 2021.

Scholarship recipients and their parent/guardian(s) will be invited to attend the Credit Union's Annual Meeting, where they will be recognized by our members and our Board of Directors. 


Scholarship checks will be mailed and made payable directly to the student’s college or university for the 2021 fall semester. Winners will need to provide their college/university student ID and mailing address. College scholarships may be considered taxable income in some cases. Recipients should check with your tax advisors.

Winners must be enrolled full time and begin their studies in the fall semester after high school graduation otherwise the scholarship is forfeited.


All entries become the property of UVA Community Credit Union and by submitting the entry you authorize UVA Community Credit Union to utilize all or a portion of the information for publicity. Winners will be asked to submit a photo for publicity. Some examples include: press releases, publication in UVA Community Credit Union newsletters, websites or social media, newspapers, trade magazines, etc. These announcements may include scholarship recipient’s name, contents of the entry, a photo, and other reported information.


UVA Community Credit Union reserves the right to discontinue or modify its scholarship program, or any component thereof, and to revise any or all of the scholarship requirements, processes, or eligibilty criteria at any time. Not responsible for lost or damaged entries due to technical difficulties or postal issuses.
