Our mission is to improve the well-being of our members and to strengthen the communities we serve. About Our Scholarship Program

UVA Community Credit Union will award a total of twenty five (25) $1,500 scholarships to:

Graduating high school seniors attending any public, private, or home-school located in each of the following counties in our membership area - this includes the counties of: Albemarle, Amherst, Augusta, Bath, Bedford, Buckingham, Campbell, Culpeper, Cumberland, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Highland, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, Rappahannock, Rockbridge, Rockingham; and the cities of: Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro.  

Student Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a full-time resident attending public, private, or home-school within our field of membership
  • Must be a graduating High School Senior
  • Must plan to attend a two or four year accredited U.S. college or university in the fall of 2024 
  • Must have a GPA of at least 2.50 (winners will be asked to provide a copy of their transcript)

You do not need to be a member of UVA Community Credit Union to apply. Employees/Board Members or any child in their care are not eligible to apply. 

Submission and Selection/Notification Process

Complete and submit an online or a paper scholarship application, along with a 250 - 500 word essay on this year's topic: "What is the best financial advice you ever received and why/how do you think it will help you in the future?" Submissions must be received/postmarked by Monday, March 4, 2024. 

Winners will be selected by a panel of judges from UVA Community Credit Union. Essays will be graded on clarity, content, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Winners will be asked to provide a copy of their school transcript. Winners will be notified via phone/email by April 30, 2024. Scholarship awards must be accepted by responding to the winner notification email within 7 days or award may be forfeited

Scholarship recipients and their parent/guardian(s) will be invited to attend the Credit Union's Annual Meeting in May where they will be recognized by our members and our Board of Directors. 

Prize

Winners must be enrolled full time and begin their studies in the fall semester after high school graduation otherwise the scholarship is forfeited. Scholarship checks will be mailed and made payable directly to the student’s college or university for the 2024 fall semester. Winners will need to provide their college/university student ID and mailing address. College scholarships may be considered taxable income in some cases. Recipients should check with their tax advisor.

Release

All entries become the property of UVA Community Credit Union and by submitting the entry you authorize UVA Community Credit Union to utilize all or a portion of the information for publicity. Winners will be asked to submit a photo for publicity. Some examples include: press releases, publication in UVA Community Credit Union newsletters, websites or social media, newspapers, trade magazines, etc. These announcements may include scholarship recipient’s name, contents of the entry, a photo, and other reported information.

Other

UVA Community Credit Union reserves the right to discontinue or modify its scholarship program, or any component thereof, and to revise any or all of the scholarship requirements, processes, or eligibility criteria at any time. If the Credit Union does not receive an application from each of the counties/cities listed above, we may, at our discretion, award those funds to another applicant from any county/city within our field of membership. Not responsible for lost or damaged entries due to technical difficulties or postal issues.
